Terms and Terminologies We Use
As with many gamblers and casino goers, we have a vernacular all our own. Many of the terms we use are commonly used amongst gamblers and you are likely familiar with them. Some of our sayings are somewhat unique to us so we thought we would share the list below so that you do not get lost as we chat and you can follow along in our YouTube videos.

All-in
Usually a poker term, but we often use it when we are at the end of our bankroll.
Arithmetic’ing
When a bonus multiplier or payout is ticking off on the screen of a slot machine and you are trying figure out the total win based upon the Denom of the bet.
Bad Math/Math’r/Mather
Refers to a bonus that does not live up to expectations, often being only 20x our line bet or less.
Bankroll
The amount of money you have with you that you have allotted to gambling on a given day.
Base Bet
The dollar amount being wagered on each spin of a slot machine in accordance with Our Simple Slot Machine Strategy.
Bath
To lose a lot of money in a session.
Cycle/Cycling
When you are using money already won to then gamble more. You are “cycling” your money or are going to “cycle” your money.
Dead Spin
A non-paying spin on a slot machine that yields no payout whatsoever.
Denom
The denomination of the credit you are playing in a slot machine (e.g. $0.01, $0.05, $0.10, $0.25, and so on…).
Double Pop
When a slot machine has 2 or more different bonus features that can be triggered together simultaneously and two of them trigger at once.
Edge
Describes having a betting advantage over another. As an example, “house edge” means that the casino has slightly better odds of winning.
F’ini
Combines the expletive “f***ing” and the word “mini” to describe the mini bonus that is often the default bonuse you receive when you pick the coins on a slot machine to reveal the “jackpot”. Usually, this jackpot is not much money. Can be used in a sentence, “We got the f’ini again…”, or just on its own.
Grind
When you continue to take small wins and move around to multiple slot machines attempting to “grind out a win”.
Line Bet
How much you are wagering on each line of a slot machine. If the slot machine has multiple lines and you are wagering a dollar per line, your Base Bet would be number of lines multiplied by Denom you are playing.
Magic Fingers
The wiggling of fingers in a fashion often used to call upon the great gods of gambling to bring the “Spin Magic”.
Noises of Nothing
Refers to when a slot machine has sound effects that are seemingly exciting and make you think you hit the bonus, but in the end it was just another Dead Spin.
Pop
When a bonus finally triggers or you achieve a large payout on a slot machine, it is considered to have finally “popped”. Or you are trying to get the bonus to trigger or jackpot to payout, meaning you are trying to get the slot machine to “pop”.
Progressive
A slot machine jackpot that continues to grow as the machine is played. There are often different levels of progressive jackpots that range from “mini” all the way up to a “grand” or “super grand”. Also we use this to refer to our betting system when playing blackjack.
River
Usually used as a poker term to describe the last card dealt. When playing slots, it is used to describe a symbol hitting on the last reel that helps trigger a bonus or was the necessary symbol to contribute to a line pay. Example: “We got that coin on the absolute river!” or as a verb “We rivered it!”
RNG
Random Number Generator, which is what determines whether a slot machine spin is a winner or not.
RTP
Refers to “return to player”, which is the percentage of each dollar that is expected to be returned in winnings to each player. Often mentioned when referring to the casino’s Edge.
Shower
Refers to a bonus or jackpot payout graphic where coins rain down or shoot upward on the slot machine, often referred to as a “coin shower”. Showers are preferred to Baths or getting Soaked.
Soaked
Refers to an absolute bad day of gambling, usually from the result of several baths (see “Bath”).
Spin Gain
A term used to describe the reinvestment of small wins when playing a slot machine. Read What We Mean by “Spin Gain” When Playing Slot Machines.
Spin Magic
When a slot machine spin is seemingly magical, such as getting a slot machine bonus or jackpot on the very first spin right after you sit down to play.
Triple Pop
When a slot machine has 3 or more different bonus features that can be triggered together simultaneously and three of them all trigger at once.
Volatility
Refers to the swings of winning and losing of a slot machine. A “high volatility machine” is more likely to have greater swings between winning and losing, as well as higher jackpots and/or progressives.
X
Used to describe the multiple of something, such as a line bet. For example, $10.00 is 10X of $1.00.
